Taylor Swift's "Love Story" came up a few times in response journals as an example of Romeo and Juliet in pop culture.
Here is the trailer for Baz Luhrmann's William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet from 1996. We may watch some clips of this one in class, but it's not as true to the story as some other versions. (It's still one of Ms. Bergman's favorite movies, though!)

"While on tour with Alanis Morissette in September of 1996, Radiohead was sent the last half-hour of Baz Luhrmann's film William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet and asked to write a song for the closing credits. Band members were impressed by the clip, and Thom wrote this song for the movie. At first he attempted to use lines from Shakespeare's play as lyrics, but finally ditched the idea."
